Ever since the first season of Jordan inspired silhouettes I have always been intrigued by Gourmet, dunno really what to make of them. I like their design aesthetic, but don’t know anything about how they are made or where, what the thought pattern is behind the work. Should all this information even be a factor? Should it even make a difference?
Take for instance this past week Twiz informed me that my Dita Grand Masters, actually takes some Japanese dude 12 months to create by hand. That day I came home and actually found the box and placed them in there instead of just throwing them on my bedroom floor like I do everyday, but when I bought them I just copped it because they just looked so damn good.
Shit when I was younger I was happy to even get a pair of And1′s as long as I knew no other kid in school had the same shits on, I was straight stuntin. But now I do give a shit where shit is made, quality of materials and workmanship matters, it is because I choose to buy smart, I buy less, I appreciate more, and end of the day what’s most important is if it looks good right?

Events

Last night we took a break from the hectic preparations for the Swap & Cop and checked out the Papercuts Collective show down at Bleed Heart Gallery. Needless to say we were more than impressed with the size of the turnout and the quality of work on display. Seeing how well something like this went attracting artists from all over Australia is incredibly encouraging. Hopefully we see more of this in the future.

A Party of the Imperial Kind

To celebrate the next batch of Star Wars Adidas sneakers Laced will again be holding a party. This time though you’ll be treated to an art show courtesy of local artists RyRy and Duncan Mattocks. These paintings really are amazing, you need to see them to full appreciate the quality of the work. Jabba up there is just a sneak-peak of what’s to come.
It all kicks off 7pm on Thursday the 9th (that’s next Thursday) so get suited up ’cause this one’s gonna be a good ‘un.

2010 Dita Sun Collection

We here at P4 are big fans of Dita eyewear; Taz sports both the optical and sun line, whilst my non-wussy eyesight allows me to do without optical lenses for now. Anyway, if anyone can comment on the hand crafted excellence that is a Dita frame it’s us. Many people don’t know, but Dita’s hand-made frames are one of the last left in the sunglass industry, with most of the ‘big’ companies moving to mass production out of Italy, whilst Dita remains in Japan having 65 year old craftsmen painstakingly create every single frame over a time frame spanning 6-12 months.
